Desmos Graph Art: Unleashing Your Creativity with Equations

In today's digital age, expressing creativity is a vital way for both students and adults to bond over shared experiences, tell stories, and convey emotions. As part of our hackathon project, we developed a Desmos art generator from scratch to enable users to create stunning graph art using equations.

For those familiar with math classes, you may have experimented with using Desmos graphs to design drawings like snowmen or even code scenery and houses using processing.js. We've taken it a step further by creating a video tutorial on circles for those who want to get started quickly (watch the YouTube video).

Our team is comprised of technology, STEM, and art enthusiasts who are always amazed by innovative interdisciplinary projects that merge tech and art. Google's Quick Draw project is an excellent example of how creative and mesmerizing such collaborations can be.

To create your own Desmos graph art, you'll need to use a combination of sliders and actual numbers in your equations. There are three levels of difficulty: Spicy, Medium, and Mild. Each level has its unique requirements:

* Spicy: Uses at least 100 equations, less than 30% linear equations, and shading or all equations.

* Medium: Uses at least 70 equations with no more than 60% linear equations and shading.

* Mild: Uses at least 25 equations with 75% or more linear equations.

Please note that if you want to deviate from these guidelines, consult with Chris for guidance.

To help you get started, here are the key requirements for each level:

* Looks like the object you're trying to represent

* Uses at least one line, one parabola, one circle, and one exponential (Challenge Option: Sine wave)

* This document will serve as a reference as you create your art

We recommend spending 2 hours of class time to paste a picture and write your first 15 equations. For added support, work with a partner and use the structured Desmos Critique to review each other's work.
